10/23/2006 Vista RC2 on Macbook (non-pro)Vista RC2 works pretty well on my non-pro Macbook. I upgraded from Windows XP SP2, and didn't try to install any Apple-specific drivers.
Out-of-the-box I have Aero working (Note: Aero didn't work when I had only 512 MB of RAM. But when I installed 2 GB it automatically turned on.)
The following things don't work:
- Audio
- Intel Performance Counters
- Web Cam
- IR Port
- Delete Key
- Home / Page Up/Down / End keys
- Hold right-apple key for Right Mouse button
I am guessing that many of these items could be made to work if I tried to manually install some of the XP drivers that Apple supplies. But I think I'll wait for Apple to upgrade their BootCamp support to officially support Vista. I assume they'll do this around the time that Vista ships to end users, which I believe is scheduled for early next year.
10/8/2006 Vista RC2 is OK!This weekend I installed Vista RC2 on my two-year-old desktop PC (P4 1.8 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, ATI 9700 graphics card. RC2 seems smoother and faster than RC1.
I am finally starting to get used to the new Aero UI and the security dialogs and the Explorer UI changes.
I like the new Internet Explorer 7 UI, especially the tabbed browsing.
I like the new Media Center and Media Center Extender UI.
